It is noted that an unexpected bias of the Ap index toward even values was discovered during a derivation of some statistics on that index. The frequency distribution of Ap indices for the period from Jan. 1, 1932, to June 30, 1972, is plotted, and the method used to derive the Ap index from the Kp index is examined. The bias toward even values is found to be a consequence of the 'round to the nearest even integer' rule employed in computing the Ap index. Two alternative rounding methods are suggested for eliminating the bias, and it is proposed that the whole series of Ap indices from Jan. 1, 1932, to the present be recomputed to produce a uniform unbiased series.
