Large multi-wavelength deep-sky surveys (such as the Cosmic Evolution Survey) enable the possibility of exploring the origin and evolution of luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) out to high redshifts, where these interacting systems are known to play a dominant role in galaxy formation and evolution. However, the lack of sensitive high angular resolution far-infrared imaging data cripples the ability of such surveys to directly identify LIRGs at high z. A scheme for selecting high-redshift LIRGs with templates that encompass the range of properties of local LIRGs has been suggested. Here we present a comparison of local and high-z LIRGs via an analysis of color and morphological properties using photometry and imaging data from the Great Observatories All-sky LIRG Survey (GOALS). We compile new accurate photometry (0.15-8.0 microns) and high-resolution HST ACS data for a complete subsample of 45 local (z < 0.1) LIRGs from the Revised Bright Galaxy Sample for predicting colors and morphologies of LIRGs at high redshift. We compare our results with previous color diagnostics (e.g. B-K vs. redshift, BzK) and morphological parameters (e.g. Concentration, Asymmetry) and subsequently assess the effectiveness of such existing selection techniques for high-z LIRGs. Implications of evolutionary effects are discussed.
