Calculations have been performed for a 17-level Ni(+) ion over a range in Te and Ne representative of conditions found in gaseous nebulae in order to find additional observable forbidden Ni II emission lines which could be used to verify the assumption that the strong 7378-A line seen in numerous objects is primarily excited by electron-ion collisions. It is found that lines occurring at 1.19, 6.63 and 10.7 microns should range in strength from roughly 0.1 to several times that of 7378-A in an unreddened spectrum. Predicted strengths of these three lines relative to 7378-A are presented for five filament positions in the Crab Nebula plus one location in the supernova remnant IC 443. In addition, previously published data have been employed to estimate fluxes in these lines at each of these positions. A comparison to recently published infrared spectroscopic observations of IC 443 implies that these three forbidden Ni II infrared lines should be readily observable, assuming that 7378-A is collisionally produced.
