Lie theoretical methods of extended groups are applied to Hamilton's equations to develop a procedure for determining the invariants of the solution. The development is expressed in compact vector and matrix notation. The Kepler problem perturbed by the second zonal harmonic, the J2 term, is investigated using this method. It is shown that there are only two scalar generators for this dynamical system corresponding to two integrals of motion, the total energy and the axial component of the angular momentum vector.
