The possibility is considered that a broad absorption feature centered on a wavelength close to 2200 A, derived from scattering studies of dust clouds observed during the storm at the Martian surface in 1971, may be a signature of highly complex organic or prebiotic molecules. Attention is given to considerations reported by Hoyle and Wickramasinghe (1977) concerning the evolution of a primitive life form in the interstellar medium and studies conducted by Pank and Ajello (1977).
