Active Galactic Nuclei: X-Ray Variations, Liners: X-Ray Variations

Scientific paper

This paper will devote itself the detection of periodic X-ray variability of M81 nucleus. Using ROSAT PSPC pointed observation of M81 from Sep to Oct 3 in 1992, 9 individual continuous exposures, including the 3 longest ones of ≡3000 s, are analyzed with the aid of the PDS method. At the 99.9% confidence level no periodic X-ray variability on the timescale of <1 hour is detected in the PDS analysis. This result may suggest that the lack of rapid (<1 day) periodic variability may be an intrinsic behavior of AGNs. It will also offer an observational clue to the physical models of AGNs and LINERs.
