The future global energy demands are briefly reviewed from the standpoint of the possible development of the World Energy System (WES). The concept of the multiproduct WES is defined, and the basic structure of such a system is presented. The problems associated with the establishment and use of large-scale energy flows from space are identified, and possible implementations of space energy systems are discussed in this context, with particular attention given to a lunar power system.
