The available data base is examined to constrain the Rb/Cs ratio of the earth and its bulk K, Rb, and Cs contents. Analogous data on lunar rocks are reviewed in order to compare the Rb/Cs ratio of the silicate earth (SE) and moon and to test whether Rb and Cs abundances can be used to constrain models of lunar origin. The continental crust is found to have an Rb/Cs ratio of about 25, whereas the depleted MORB source and OIB plume source regions have Rb/Cs ratios of about 80. There is evidence suggesting a secular change in the Rb/Cs ratios of the depleted mantle. The Rb/Cs ratio in the SE is estimated to be about 28. The continental crust contains about 37 percent of the total K present in the SE, 50 percent of its Rb, and 55 percent of its Cs, whereas the residual mantle contains about 20 percent of the K, 10 percent of the Rb, and only 4 percent of the Cs. The average Rb/Cs ratio for all lunar samples is about 22, a ratio similar to that of the SE.
