Natural K-feldspars exhibiting all states that are structurally intermediate between sanidine (monoclinic) and microcline (with maximum triclinicity) are described. Data based on X-ray measurements are given for selected materials from a variety of geological occurrences. The possible modes of genesis of these triclinic K-feldspars are discussed. The relation of "orthoclase" to sanidine and microcline is also considered. The difficulty of using information on the polymorphism of KAlSi 3 O 8 , in geologic thermometry is pointed out.
