It is shown that the temporal shift of the cross-correlation function of
pulsar scintillation may be due to intrinsic noise in the receiver.
Equations are obtained for the noise contribution, and the rms value is
estimated for the shift due to noise. The influence of receiver noise on
previously measured variability in pulsar drift velocities is described.
