The differences between the results obtained by Thieberger (1987) and by Adelberger and collaborators regarding the 'fifth force' ranging from 100-1000 m are discussed. It is suggested that the most likely origin of new gravitational-strength forces may be found in quantum theories of gravity. The following scenario is proposed: new spin-1 graviphoton and spin-0 graviscalar partners of the graviton, both with longer ranges.
