The photographs taken on March 25, 1986 at Mount John Observatory show that the nucleus of comet Halley has split into two components. The separated projected distance on the plane of the sky is about 5×103km. There was a jet in the smaller component of the nucleus as well as in the large one. Some photographs have been processed. The gap between the two components and the jet which the smaller one ejected are seen more clearly.
