Mass spectroscopy was used to study the positive ion composition of the D region at heights between 80 and 85 km. It is shown that the effective coefficient of the formation of NO positive ion bunches is subject to variation with time, while the coefficient of O2 positive ion bunch formation remains constant. Soundings were carried out during solar eclipse, undisturbed daytime periods and magnetically disturbed periods.
