Ion composition measurements have stimulated middle-atmosphere research. A novel ion mass spectrometry technique is under development which will allow the simultaneous measurement of a partial, or even a full, spectrum. This Simultaneous Ion Detection in Atmospheric Mass Spectrometry Instrument can be used to detect trace gas species with improved height resolution of 100 m.
