We have observed and mapped 2082 flat-spectrum radio sources in the southern sky (delta = 0arcdeg to -40arcdeg ) using the VLA at 8.4 GHz. The targets were drawn from the Parkes-MIT-NRAO 4.8 GHz survey. We excluded targets within 10 arcdeg of the galactic plane, in order to enhance the number of extragalactic sources in our sample. Our goal is to identify new gravitational lenses, from which cosmological information (such as H0, q0 and lambda ) may be extracted. In the process we have produced a catalog of radio source positions accurate to within ~ 0.1arcsec , flux densities accurate to ~ 5%, and basic morphologies (single, double, or extended). The search has turned up ~ 100 gravitational lens candidates for which optical follow-up imaging is indicated. In addition, this catalog may be useful in searches for quasars or other extragalactic objects, and in interferometer calibration.
