Scientific paper

The objective of this activity is threefold; first to establish the position of the spectrograph finger in the SDS coordinates, and secondly to establish the best internal focus of the f/48 chain and to verify its resolution performance. Both an extended object with structure and series of point sources should be imaged to obtain the point spread function and the line spread function. A test for scattered light in the spectrograph will also be carried out. The f/48 best focus position will be used to update the flight software, and is necessary for perfroming future FOC observations. Finally, a series of observations will be performed in spectrograph mode with a UV source illuminating various parts of the main F/48 aperture. These observations will be used to assess the level of breakthrough from the main aperture when using spectrograph mode. Revised 9/6/89 to match Implementation Plan Revised 12/6/89 to accommodate resolutions adopted at meetings with the proposer.
