A positive feedback solution for flex pivot-mounted gimbal stabilization systems is discussed. The solution implements band-limited derivative control to compensate for the flex-pivot resonance while minimizing the bandwidth to 2.0 Hz for an additional 11 dB of attenuation above 3 Hz. Tradeoff study results are discussed, and a closed-form solution is presented which solves for the compensator parameters as a function of flex pivot stiffness, plant characteristics, and desired bandwidth.
