The oxidation of high density polyethylene precipitated from chlorobenzene or decane, in presence of tetrakis[methylene-3-(3',5'-di-tert-butyl-4'-hydroxy-phenyl)-propionate]methane, has been studied. Inhibition by the antioxidant is more efficient when the polymer has been obtained from dilute chlorobenzene solutions. FT-IR spectra indicate that a less ordered structure is obtained when decane is the solvent. The change of disorder in the amorphous state on drawing is also discussed.
