The star β Geminorum, an orange giant of spectral class K0IIIvar.
At apparent magnitude 1.16 it is the brightest star in Gemini,
suggesting that it may have brightened (or Castor faded) since the Bayer
letters were allocated in 1603. Pollux is rather closer than Castor, at
34 light-years (parallax 0.097''); its absolute magnitude is 1.1....
