Various computational methods may be used for obtaining exact numerical results for radiation scattered by a plane-parallel atmosphere. Polarized internal and external radiation is calculated for a plane-parallel, homogeneous atmosphere and three types of randomly-oriented spheroids. Results were obtained using the Fx method and a scheme based on the adding/doubling method. Expansion coefficients in generalized spherical functions were used as input for the single-scattering properties and provide accurate numerical results for polarized internal and external radiation in plane-parallel atmospheres containing randomly-oriented spheroids. These methods should work well in both restricted and more general cases of multiple scattering by spheres as six independent expansion coefficients in generalized spherical functions are used. The tabulated results are highly accurate accurate and may be used as benchmark results.
