Broadband plane polarization (0.1-10%) has been observed in the light emitted by flare stars outside flares. The possibility that the polarization might be due to synchrotron radiation is examined. On the basis of the electron energy spectrum which would be required, it is suggested that synchrotron radiation is probably not responsible for the observed polarization.
