Polarimetric observations of 1685 Toro were conducted during 21 nights in July and August, 1988. The phase dependence of the asteroid positive polarization was obtained in the phase angle range between 47 and 106.3 degrees. It is found that the value of maximum polarization of 1685 Toro in the V band, P(max), is 8.5 + or - 0.7 percent at alpha(max) = 110 + or - 10 degrees. The albedo of the asteroid is estimated on the basis of the polarimetric slope. The results of laboratory studies of the P(max)-albedo dependence of lunar regolith and terrestrial samples are combined with the values of P(max), alpha(max), and albedo to estimate the 1685 Toro regolith particle size. The results confirm the hypothesis that regoliths of small atmosphereless bodies are more coarse-grained than lunar regolith.
