Five-colour (UBVRI) polarimetric observations of 13 late-type stars are reported. Three stars (HD 20630, HD 25998 and HD 206860) showed a clear wavelength dependent polarization, decreasing from the ultraviolet to the red channel, and for several others the polarization is large in the ultraviolet. Time dependent variations are also observed, and some stars show variations in the U and B bands not correlated with those in the R and I bands. These results suggest that the observed linear polarization in U and B is at least partly intrinsic and caused by magnetic activity in these stars. A slight increase in the degree of polarization in U and B with increasing chromospheric Ca II (H+K)-emission flux supports this conclusion.
