The construction of the ANTARES neutrino telescope has already started and five lines (out of 12) are connected and taking data. The technical success that the project is showing reinforces the confidence in achieving the expected performance when it will be completed in early 2008. One of the most outstanding features of ANTARES, when compared with other neutrino telescopes, is its angular resolution (better than 0.3° above 10 TeV). This will convert ANTARES in an extraordinary tool to look for neutrino point-like sources. Since such signals are predicted to be low, it is particularly important to develop efficient algorithms for the search of signal excess over the atmospheric neutrino background. In this talk I describe the methods developed in the ANTARES collaboration and their capability in terms of sensitivity and discovery potential.
