Peak height, half-peak width, background and location of the point image are considered in optimizing the point source detection properties of a Secondary Electron Conduction (SEC) vidicon digital TV camera tube. The SEC vidicon TV camera is intended to detect star fields or certain optical spectra. Momentary increases in the target voltage during priming is found to reduce priming time and improve peak height performance. For 0.1 pixel addressing accuracy, a power supply specification of + or - 0.03 V proves necessary. The dependency of peak height, background and half-peak width on readout beam current is also discussed.
