A modified version of SAMSI (Spacecraft Array for Michelson Spatial Interferometry), which makes use of the fuel resupply capability of Space Station, could be a powerful device. The combination of a refueling facility with a technique for obtaining image Fourier transform phase information from spectrally dispersed fringes would permit SAMSI to synthesize images equivalent to those produced by huge apertures in space. The authors discuss synthesis of apertures in the 100 to 500 meter range. Reconstruction can be performed to a visual magnitude of at least 8 for 100 Å passbands in 9 hours.
