The coincidence of orogenic belts containing zones of high pressure metamorphism, ophiolites and deepwater sediments with faunal province boundaries leads to the postulation of several sutural zones within Asia. About nine blocks are defined and it is suggested on the basis of palaeogeographical, palaeontological and tectonic evidence that Asia did not fuse completely until well into the Mesozoic.
