The knowledge of statistical properties of exoplanets around host stars with various masses give quantitative constraint on models of planet formation. We present our large search program for planets orbiting M dwarfs. This primary mass range is not yet explored very well. Because of their faintness in the visible light, very low mass stars are difficult targets for radial velocity surveys. We present radial velocity precisions obtained for our ELODIE and HARPS surveys (in the part of the GTO program), suitable for planet detection down to ˜10 earth masses. We have recently discovered the Gl 581 system (Bonfils et al. 2005), the third planetary system around an M dwarf.
