The author has compared statistical distances of planetary nebulae given by different authors (assuming a constant ionized nebular mass or an empirical evolutionary behaviour of the ionized mass) with distances obtained independently on assumptions on the ionized mass. Statistical distance scales which consider a fully ionized plasma (independently on the evolutionary phase of the object) overestimate distances of planetary nebulae in the first evolution (which are optically thick). Central stars of planetary nebulae of the sub-class B of Greig (1971, 1972) are statistically more massive than those of nebulae belonging to the sub-class C. The author's data point out the existence of a temporal discrepancy between the observed early evolution of the central stars and that predicted by theory.
