A simple stochastically forced barotropic vorticity-transfer model for general circulation has produced solutions that display certain morphological and dynamical similarity with observed terrestrial and Jovian circulations. The results suggest that for both atmospheres, barotropic (mechanical) processes control large-scale features, and baroclinic (thermodynamical) processes control the energy supply and more subtle behavior.
