A class of homogeneous plane-symmetrical perfect-fluid model universes with a Bianchi type-I group of motions is derived and applied to a fluid comprising equal numbers of nondegenerate electrons and protons and photons expanding in thermal equilibrium at a common temperature. The electrons and protons are assumed to follow the equations of state for a two-component gas proposed by Synge (1957). The evolution of the resulting models is found to be determined by the initial photon/baryon number ratio and the anisotropy parameter.
