The pinning of two classes of proton vortices is investigated and several astrophysical consequences of this are considered. It is shown that pinning of proton vortices associated with the residual and generated magnetic field occurs in the superfluid cores of neutron stars. The motion of pinned vortices results in an asymmetric release of energy at the boundary of the superfluid core, and this leads to the formation of two sources of pulsar radio wave emission.
