PHENIX experiment at RHIC provides a great opportunity to study nuclear matter under highest energy density and temperature in heavy ion collisions as well as proton spin structure in polarized proton collisions. Pi0's are a very important probe in both proton and heavy ion physics. Pi0 yield asymmetry in longitudinally polarized proton collisions gives an access to the gluon polarization in proton. Single-transverse spin asymmetry measurements with pi0's is another aspect to study spin structure of the nucleon. Pi0 measurements in proton collisions is also a baseline for exploring nuclear effects in heavy ion collisions. Pi0 pt spectra measured in proton collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV will be presented and compared to earlier experiments. First pi0 results from polarized proton collisions will be discussed.
