The principal sources of radiative losses in the chromospheres of F, G, and K stars are indicated, with particular attention given to the hydrogen continuum and intense and faint lines formed by different elements. Mechanisms of the heating of stellar chromospheres are examined, with emphasis on heating via the dissipation of acoustic and magnetohydrodynamic waves.
