Results are reported for B and V observations of the faint star with a large UV excess that has been suggested as the optical counterpart of the X-ray source 4U 1626-67. The observations are found not to yield any evidence for a significant periodic variation in either B or V with a period less than 0.3 day or for any erratic variations larger than 0.2 mag. It is concluded that models that predict large short-period variations during an interval of 0.2 day are ruled out, that a short-period binary model is favored, and that the observed UV excess is probably associated with the presence of an accretion disk.
