Photographic B and V magnitudes for 305 stars in the region of the open cluster NGC 2286 are given. Combining with other data, a mean color excess of E(B-V) = 0.40 +/- 0.10 mag, a distance modulus of 10.90 +/- 0.10 mag, corresponding to a distance of r about 1510 +/- 70 pc, and an age estimate of 6 x 10 exp 7 yr are derived. On the basis of the obtained HR diagram, some other properties of the cluster are discussed.
