A detailed photometric and kinematic study of the large two-armed Sbc spiral galaxy NGC 1566 has been undertaken based on prime focus photographic plates and TAURUS Fabry-Perot interferometry obtained with the Anglo-Australian 3.9 m telescope. The map of the velocity field has allowed an unambiguous determination of the inclination and angle of the line of nodes which had not been possible from the photometry alone. The kinematics do not show any evidence for the pronounced warp of the disk which had been previously suggested. The H-alpha emission map is dominated by one extremely bright H II complex in the northern arm which emits 20 percent of the total H-alpha flux from the disk.
