Techniques for the photometry of close binaries are reviewed and developed in the context of seeing theory. Different techniques are appropriate depending upon whether the binary separation is greater than the seeing-limited resolution (abour 1 arcsec), in the range 0.4-1.0 arcsec, or close to the diffraction limit of the telescope being used. These techniques may also be useful for improving the photometry of crowded fields.
