Photometry collected using Sloan Digital Sky Survey filter systems is graphically compared to Kurucz model atmospheres with varying surface gravity, metallicity, and effective temperature over a color range which provides a useful separation in metallicity. With the use of SDSS data, it was determined that the metallicity of stars with 0.5 < g'-r' < 0.8 can be interpolated based upon their position in the stellar locus of a three dimensional color plot (Lenz et al. 1998). Application of this method to tens of millions of Galactic stars in the SDSS catalogs will shift the majority of stellar property determinations from spectral to photometric analysis, thus leveraging our ability to study Galactic structure and abundance gradients in the Galactic halo and thick disk.
