We measure the stellar mass function per type from z˜ 0.2 out to z˜ 2 in the 2-deg^2 COSMOS field. We base our measurement on much improved photometric redshifts computed with 30 bands. Comparison of the derived photo-z with 4148 spectroscopic redshifts indicates a dispersion of σ_{Δ z/(1+z)}=0.007 at i^+_{AB}<22.5. We measure the stellar mass function of different galaxy types based on 230,000 galaxies selected at F_{3.6μ m}> 1 μ Jy. We observe a increase in density of the low mass ellipticals with times ; a rapid mass assembly of massive ellipticals from z=2 out z=1 which slows down at z<1 ; a mild evolution of the stellar mass density for the star-forming galaxies which indicates that a significant fraction of them is transformed into quiescent galaxies.
