It has been known that VV Cephei is a long-period (= 20.4 yr) binary system consisting of a M-type supergiant and a Be star. From several observations of past eclipses, we had obtained informations about the atmospheric structure of the M-type supergiant star, the envelope structure around the B-type star, and mass transfer between the components, etc. A recent eclipse of VV Cephei occurred from late 1996 to early 1999. We started photometric and polarimetric observations to investigate the circumstellar gas and dust behaviour of this system using a 36-inch reflector. We here report our observational results observed during the ingress and totality obtained throughout the eclipse. ------- End of Forwarded Message
