By photoelectric scanning at constant speed, the integrated profile in V light of the central region of M3 down to a radius of 6 min is obtained. The integral equations relating the observed profile to the surface brightness and to the space light density are solved by a regularization method, which does not require the usual numerical filtering or a priori hypothesis on the analytical expression of the sought distributions. The behavior of the space light density thus obtained is consistent with the hypothesis (Kholopov 1953, 1955) on the existence of density waves in the space distribution of the most luminous stars.
