The photoelectric integrated V profile of M32 is obtained in about 20 minutes by scanning at constant speed up to 4.64 arcmin from the center. The inverse problem of determining from it the brightness and the space light density is solved by means of a regularization method. The resulting brightness ranges from a central value of 13.69 up to 25.60 V mag/sq arcsec at the end of the profile; the related integrated magnitude is 8.58. The radius and the integrated magnitude of the semistellar nucleus (uncorrected for seeing effects) are found to be 2.3 arcsec and 12.03 V mag, respectively. The brightness profile shows fine structures that seem to be connected with the variations of some physical parameters, previously reported in the literature. A similar effect occurs in other systems, such as the globular cluster M3 and the E4 galaxy NGC 4697, whose data are reported for comparison.
