Ground and rocket measurements performed in 1975 and 1976 were used to obtain information on such ionospheric parameters as electron density profiles, electron collision frequency, and concentrations of O, O2, and N2. It is shown that the theory of the photochemical formation of the ionosphere satisfactorily explains the vertical distribution of electron density below the F-region maximum.
