Two large Soviet spacecraft launched in 1988. Intended to explore Mars
and drop instruments onto the surface of its moon Phobos. Contact was
lost with Phobos-1 en route to Mars. Phobos-2 failed during manoeuvres
in Martian orbit. Some images and other data on the planet and Phobos
were returned....
