Phase resolved linear polarization spectra of AM Her are presented for the first time. They fit in the context of recent two-pole accretion models. From our polarization spectra we synthesized B, V, and R broad band observations. These are consistent with the data of Wickramasinghe et al. (1991), observed at nearly the same time. A phase dependent strong depolarization feature around 6200 A might be caused by H-alpha-sigma(-) absorption. The wavelength variation with phase of this feature is explained by means of different field strengths at the two accretion spots. A possible contribution to this wavelength shift due to Doppler effect is estimated in the geometry given by Wickramasinghe et al. (1991).
