There exist small perturbations of L-functions, satisfying the appropriate
functional equation, for which the analogue of the Riemann hypothesis fails
radically. Moreover, this phenomenon is generic. However, there also exist
small perturbations, for which the analogue of the Riemann hypothesis holds.
