A radio system consisting of four interplanetary spacecraft placed apart longitudinally is proposed for the general investigation of solar wind characteristics. Equipped with a dual-frequency coherent radio transmitter and ground receiving stations providing simultaneous reception of signals from the spacecraft, the system can provide information on the velocity of solar wind plasma clouds, the solar-wind direction, and other parameters. The design of the system and regular observations will provide the interplanetary sector structure pattern, and the distribution of solar wind flow velocities. Studies concerning the reception of signals from Venera 9 and 10 confirm the possibility of designing such systems, and the possibility of studying solar wind dynamics with the use of a dispersion interferometer with spaced transmitting receivers. Problems involving ground-based measuring stations appearing to lie in different planes are analyzed. It is concluded that to obtain continuous observations, receiving stations must be placed apart longitudinally, and more or less uniformly.
