The IUE spacecraft has been used in a special trailing mode to obtain time-resolved spectra of regularly pulsating sources. With this technique, multiple synchronised trails are carried out so that the resulting image represents one complete pulse period across the trail. The data have been subsequently analysed using the Maximum Entropy technique to search for significant variations in the flux from the source. The problems associated with the process are discussed, together with the results from observations of the galactic X-ray sources Vela X-1 and A0535+26.
