X-ray flare activity in AR 5395 and AR 6659 is analysed for periodicity. Our calculations give a period flare intensity of 24.49 hr for AR 5395 and 57.39 for AR 6659. The distribution of flare index according to the period suggests that the energy stored within each period in an active region is roughly the same. The mean flare index over a period is a measure of the energy build-up efficiency. The efficiency is higher in AR 6659 than in AR 5395. We also discuss flare occurrence period which is a measure of the stability of magnetic structure in the active region with respect to flares. When the active region is at a higher energy state (larger deviations from the state of potential field), the possibility of flare instability is increased.
